Interview showing at Library of Congress, Veterans History Project.

Dear Mr. Alexander,

My colleague in the American Folklife Center, John Fenn, let me know that you’re interested in coming by the LC on Friday, November 9, in order to view some of the collections that you’ve donated to VHP. We’re pleased to hear that you’ll be able to visit us in person.
I assume these are the collections that you’ve donated to us? https://memory.loc.gov/diglib/vhp/search?query=Ronald%20Alexander&field=interviewerdonor

Are there any particular collections amongst these that you’d like to view? In order to serve collections in the reading room, we must first make a listening copy. If you have a sense of which collections you’d like to view, that would be much appreciated.
Also, John said that you’ll have a number of veterans with you? We’re more than happy to host them, as well, but do want to have a sense of how many veterans might be joining us, and if they will want to view the collections as well. Essentially, any additional information that you can provide about your visit would be helpful, so that we can plan accordingly and ensure that your visit goes smoothly.
Thank you again, and I look forward to hearing from you.
All best,
Megan Harris

Dear Ms. Harris,

Thanks for your prompt reply. The ones I would especially like to view are Barksdale, Baughman, Dandridge, Finney, Fisher, McGinnis, Milligan, Porter, Saunders, Tindel, Ware, and Wright. How much time do we need. I only expect 2 or 3 vets. to accompany me.What time period do I need to hear all of those, or can I hear parts while narrating additional info based on my knowledge of the interview. Also, there are 2 Col. Saunders, and that is only one, they ought to be combined. He had so much info. being in WW2, Korea and Vietnam, as was Commander Porter, that I had to interview both twice. I was planning on getting there at about 1 to 1:30 pm. Do you think we can have enough time considering you close at 5PM?
                                                                                                                                                                Yours sincerely, Ron Alexander

Dear Ms. Harris, since I can now fast forward and narrate the interview videos, I would like to add Dan Wright and Chief Waring. That would give us a glimpse of African Americans serving in WW2. Spec. 4 Wright was in New Guinea and the Philippines. and Waring was serving at Port Chicago, CA. when the large explosion happened  And again how many viewers does that viewing room seat?                                          Yours sincerely, Ron Alexander

Dear Mr. Alexander, Dear Ms. Harris,

Thanks for your email. We are excited about your visit as well. Me too, I am very grateful.

At this point, we can accommodate your request to view the Wright and Waring collections. However, please keep in mind that our turnaround time to request to view materials is two weeks. Therefore, we will not be able to add any additional collections from this point forward. No problem, those interviews will suffice...

In terms of seating: to reiterate my previous email, given that the VHP Information Center is a public space, and we expect a high number of visitors on the Friday before Veteran’s Day, we must ask that you limit the number of veterans in your group to 10. I really appreciate being able to accommodate ten, including myself? If you don't reply, I will consider this a rhetorical question, as there will probably be less anyway.  Thanks very much, Ron Alexander

All best,
Megan Harris

They are ophis is for visit to Library of Congress on Friday, Nov. 09th at about 1:30 PM. This is reply to curator, who has to set up area for us to view. They are open to 5 pm. I asked if I could narrate, so we could get to the meat of them. Barksdale is the last of the Hogan Heroes, Baughman was in 101 Airborne dropped behind the lines the night before Dday. Finney was a Medic in Okinawa in WW2, Fisher was in Vietnam, and has written 4 or 5 books about his experiences, and his org. takes vets back to Vietnam most every year for what I call reconciliation therapy, McGinnis was in Navy in Phillipines and other islands in WW2, Milligan was in Iwo Jima in WW2, Porter (you remember him Bernard?) was a pilot in WW2, Korea, and served in another capacity in Vietnam, the same for Saunders. Waring was in Port Chicago Disaster in WW2, and Wright was in New Gueana and Phillipines in WW2.  Sandra Maidment, a retired nurse and Red Cross volunteer ably assisted me in most of these interviews. There are a few not listed that must be in her name, however this is enough already. I am really looking forward, and I hope you all can visit with me. Lindsley Field is John Fisher's wife who was there when I interviewed John.              Gratefully, Ronen to 5 pm. I asked if I could narrate, so we could get to the meat of them.
